How to get there?

Lanark and New Lanark

Road

From Glasgow
Leave the M74 at junction 7 (Larkhall) and follow A72 (Clyde Valley Tourist Route) for 12 miles to Lanark.
From the South
Leave the M74 at junction 12 and then follow the A70 east and over the Hyndford Bridge into Lanark.
From Edinburgh
Leave the M8 at junction 6 (Newhouse), signed for Lanark and Airdrie and follow the A73 for 15 miles west via Newmains and Carluke.
Alternatively follow A70 west out of Edinburgh, signed for Ayr and Kilmarnock via Juniper Green, Balerno and Carnwath. Leave A70 at Ravenstruther for A743 into Lanark.
Journey times: Glasgow/Edinburgh - 45mins to 1 hour.

Rail

Two trains an hour link Glasgow with Lanark, Monday to Saturday; one an hour on Sundays. Journey time: Glasgow to Lanark - 1 hour.

Bus

Regular bus services from Motherwell and Hamilton. Journey time: 30mins - 50mins

Biggar

Road

From Edinburgh
Follow the A702 from the centre of Edinburgh for 29 miles.
From Glasgow
Directions as Lanark. Continue to follow A73 to Hyndford Bridge. Turn left on far side of bridge. Four miles further on leave A73 and join A72 signed for Biggar and Symington. Follow to A702 and turn left into Biggar.

Bus

McEwan’s coaches operate nine buses daily, Monday - Saturday, and four on a Sunday, between Edinburgh (Waterloo Place) and Biggar (Corn Exchange).
There is a hourly bus service between Lanark railway station and Biggar.

Douglas

Road

Follow the A70 from Edinburgh via Carnwath and Hyndford Bridge. Douglas lies two miles to the west of junction 12 of M74.

Bus

Hourly bus service from Lanark – Monday to Saturday. Sunday service every three hours. Two hourly service from Hamilton – Monday to Saturday.

Leadhills

Road

Leave the M74 at junction 13 and follow signs for Abington. For Leadhills and Wanlockhead turn right just south of Abington and follow the B797 south.
From Edinburgh
Follow the A702 south via Biggar to Abington.

Bus

Four services daily from Lanark – Monday to Saturday. Three services daily from Biggar – Monday to Saturday – and one on a Sunday.
