Biggar to Shieldhill Hotel
An excerpt from Walking in Clydesdale by Paul Lamarra
By the Way
Park your car in Biggar on Sunday 27th May and walk over Biggar Common to the Shieldhill Hotel for the jazz brunch.
The route which is signposted by the Scottish Rights of Way Society goes by the way of Kirkstyle, the heritage centre, the burn Braes park and the Greenhill Covenanter's Museum.
Follow the road, which leaves the park to the north west, to Hillridge farm. Just beyond the farm it is uphill and over a low point between Temple Hill and Huntfield Hill. On the far side there is an obvious track through the deep heather and between the stunted remains of trees blown down in the same storm that destroyed the Tay bridge in 1839.
The route then continues downhill onto a tarmac drive past the impressive Huntfield House. When you reach Shieldhill Road go to the left for a short distance for the jazz brunch at the hotel.
